Help me to learn about Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. What do I need to do to get started for at least one level at our parish? I understand the Atrium idea, but what do we need to stock it with? I'm going to order some items from CGSUSA.org and am looking forward to learning about this way of catechizing our young students. Any helps would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Denise, I'm a CGS catechist (trained in all three levels- ages 3-12). I stumbled across your blog through a google search. God bless you in your efforts to begin CGS at your parish. Are you enrolled in a training course through the National Association? Are there atria in your area who might be able to help provide "hands on" assistance in starting up your atrium? Also, I highly recommend grabbing a copy of Tina Lillig's book on CGS in a parish setting. It's available from the National website as well as amazon.
Peace!
Thank you for your response Katie! Yes, I am getting the book on CGS in a parish setting that you mentioned, and am currently in discussion with our pastor now on what we need to do to move along with this. I'm looking into the training, and of course everything is very far away from us here in rural Ohio USA! -- but, we are in the diocese of Steubenville and I found atria at both a parish and a home setting in the directory in our diocese for which I am familar geographically for us to get in touch with. Actually, there is an atrium outside our diocese that is even closer at a Byzantine church about 45 mins away that I may look into first. I'm not sure how quickly any of this can happen as our PSR year is going to begin soon - but we may transition this next year. In the meantime I'm going to get the DVD I saw in the OCGUSA.org Catalog and any other information to inform our catechists and help introduce CGS to them.
I'm curious if there are any lesson plans per se to impart the lessons? I will be asked this by our fellow catechists and I'm not sure how it all works at this point..
Again thanks so much!
Denise
